Taste of the West, the South West’s most prestigious food, drink and hospitality awards, has announced its winners of 2019. Out of 1,000 products sent in from across the West Country, Good Game has been awarded four gold awards and two champion products; Chorizo Jam, and Tuscan Salami Charcuterie.
Judged by the most astute palates of chefs, restauranteurs, buyers, retailers and food writers, Taste of the West is renowned for being the most respected accreditation for artisan producers, cafés and restaurants. The unmistakable logo is a clear signal for an outstanding product that has met rigorous judging criteria on texture, appearance, quality ingredients and flavour.
The judges commented on Good Game’s Tuscan Salami, “Well-seasoned and well-matured over time. It’s soft but coarse and simply melts in the mouth. All the flavours come through with warm fennel and black pepper. An instant ‘hit’ of the Mediterranean! It’s just delicious, and we could eat a whole one… each!”
As for the Chorizo Jam, the judges said: “A fabulous texture and a wonderful, perfect blend of flavours. A great balance of meatiness, saltiness and sweetness. This is a versatile product which tastes delicious and can be eaten straight off the spoon!”
Belinda Berwick, Awards Programme Manager, says: ‘Products are cross-checked by rounds of judging, so results will always be fair and consistent. Judges say its one of the highlights of the year, as overall product quality seems to improve year on year.”
Steve Williams, Good Game Co-Director, says: “Taste of the West holds a huge amount of credibility and we know there’s stiff competition in our category. We’re over the moon to win, as customers know the sticker is a mark of a high-quality product.”
The awards celebrate quality, integrity and provenance of food in the West and seek to promote local produce that goes above and beyond in terms of quality and taste.
